XXX copolymer is hands-down our favorite monofilament for any outfit
that's used for casting. In our opinion, it performs just like P-Line's
very popular CXX X-tra Strong but costs substantially less. In fact, we
think the Izorline actually "handles" a little better than the P-Line;
it's very limp and soft with minimal memory. It's
also, like P-Line, considerably "underrated." In other words, it's
quite a bit stronger than the label says. "Copolymer" simply means the line is made of a blend of several different nylons. Most copolymer monos tend to be thinner for their strength, a little more supple and stretch a little less than "plain" monofilament. They also cost a bit more. For an outfit that's used strictly for trolling, copolymer probably isn't worth the extra money. But for casting--especially with a spinning reel--it makes a big difference. Do you need line lighter than 20-lb. or heavier than 40-lb. for Baja? Well, yeah, but not often. It's fun to fish lighter stuff for spotties and corvina in the Pacific lagoons and the northern Cortez, and for surf perch and corbina off the beaches, but those are about the only kinds of Baja fishing where anything lighter than 20 is practical. And when the yellowtail are hugging the rocks down deep in the Cortez, you'll get more of them to the boat with 50 or even 60 than with 40. But line between 20- and 40-lb. test will cover 90% of Baja fishing. We carry 1/4-lb. spools, which are a much better deal than 300-yard "filler spools." For example, MSRP for a 1/4-lb. (450-yard) spool of 30-lb. test is $16.04, while MSRP for a 300-yard filler spool of 30-lb. is $14.49. So you get an extra 150 yards for little over $1.50.
